CAILEIGH POTTER
Hello, my name is Caileigh Potter, I am currently a B.A. theatre major on the pre-med track at Florida State University. For my entire life I have had a passion for children, I have always enjoyed helping them grow and thrive. Children hold a curiosity and energy that many adults lack, this curiosity inspires me every day. 3.1 million children die annually due to hunger. In 2011 45% of deaths in children under five were due to lack of nutrition. As someone who is passionate about children, I have grown interested in children’s health, specifically how malnourishment and dehydration affect children as they grow older and become adults. I have also become interested in the transmission of HIV from mother to child, the affects it has as the child gets older, and how to prevent it.
As an eager freshman I was ready to get some hands-on experience in the field, so I decided to apply for the 2018 Global Heath Study Abroad program in Mysore India. Although I am a student at Florida State, FIU allows a couple of students who attend other Florida universities to participate in the program. Through this program, I wish to gain more knowledge on children’s health and the effects of malnourishment, dehydration, and HIV transmission. I plan to take my knowledge and put it into my work as I continue through my undergrad, medical school, and beyond, in hopes to find my purpose.
