It is day two and I am already getting somewhat acquainted with Mysore, somewhat being the area around the hotel. Today we went to visit the Public Health Research Institute (PHRI), where we will be doing our classes. We were greeted with smiling faces and a traditional welcome, we were given a bindi, had flower petals sprinkled on our head, and were given a beautiful necklace made of jasmine flowers. It was one of the warmest welcomes I have ever been given, the women at PHRI wanted us to feel like part of the family. After the welcome we got to sit and asked questions to the women at PHRI, it all makes me excited to start classes. Later in the day my roommates and I came up with a dinner plan. All four of us walked to the restaurant we ate at last night and ordered take out. Right below the restaurant is a fruit store, we bought these delicious mangos and took it all back to the hotel. We felt very accomplished for out little adventure out on our own and were able to have a little family dinner. It’s crazy that it is only the second day and we are walking familiar streets.
Best,
Caileigh
